Torreta is a residential area situated on the outskirts of Torrevieja City. The N-332 dual carriageway runs along the top of the city, and on the other side is a collection of residential areas close to each other that include Torreta, Torreta 11, Torreta 111, El Hondo, Residencial Aquapark, Jardin Del Mar 1v and Dona Ines. For the sake of ease, I will refer to them collectively as Torreta. The area has a lot to offer and property prices are some of the cheapest in Torrevieja. Being outside the city the choice of property type is a lot better with less apartments. There are quite a few smaller properties of 1 or 2 bedrooms but many of them are bungalows and townhouses with private gardens and terraces for as little as 40,000€ Being right next to Torrevieja lovely salt lake and natural park, many elderly people from all over Spain, Britain and Scandinavia choose to retire here. This is partly due to the favourable property prices, and the health benefits gained from living next to the salt lakes.
Forming part of the Torrevieja-La Mata Natural Park, the salt lakes microclimate has some interesting flora & fauna and the resident pink flamingos are a joy to watch. There are hiking trails to enjoy, including Torrevieja Greenway that runs along the edge of the park, making use of the old railway tracks with various points of entry to the park. In the centre of Torreta is the popular Habaneras Shopping Centre that boasts a selection of shops offering well known high street brands, boutiques, cafes and restaurants. On the outside of the centre there is a cinema complex and various takeaway outlets. The area is also close to a large Carrefour Supermarket and just the other side of the dual carriageway is the large Aquapolis Water Park and spectacular Sports City.
