The El Acequión area of Torrevieja is a continuation of Playa de los Náufragos and is located opposite the port near the salt quay. Playa in Spanish means beach, so wherever you may look for property in this area, you’re never far from the sea. The area is conveniently located quite close to the city centre but this also means property consists mainly of apartments that are generally closer to the beach. Just a 5 to 10 minute walk from the beach the property options are a lot better, with town houses, bungalows, quad houses and villas available, many at very reasonable prices. The area also offers many long and short term rentals, although it’s worth bearing in mind, when looking for a long term rental property it’s best to do so during the winter months. A lot of property owners that haven’t found long term tenants before the summer season starts will only rent their properties short term as holiday lets which is a lot more lucrative.
El Acequión sits between the main N-332 dual carriageway and the sea. The road that runs along the seafront is very convenient as it runs past the port and continues through the centre of town, and in the other direction takes you to the popular neighbouring area of Orihuela Costa. All the smaller roads in the area are set in a grid system so, other than a few one ways, they are simple to navigate. There are a selection of local shops, bars and restaurants to choose from and along the beach you will find an even better choice of bars and restaurants as well as a few ice cream kiosks. The summer months in Torrevieja can be scorching hot so it’s nice to know that El Acequión has some lovely parks where you can find respite from the afternoon sun in the welcoming shade of their trees. Parque de Dona Sinforosa is popular and there is also Plaza Islas Canaries and Parroquia de San Roque y Santa Ana where you can get a drink and meal in Caruso Bar & Restaurant.
